Our three tier gift towers Warmest Wishes, Tis the Season and Pretty Poinsettias are all very popular. I have had customers stack them up beside their fireplace as a Christmas accent piece. Others have placed them on a side table and used them to hold everything from Christmas cards to potpourri. I had one customer utilize them when throwing a holiday party. She used the largest gift box to hold all of her guests’ car keys. At the end of the evening they were given either their car keys or a ride home if they had had too much to drink during the evening. It was a great non-confrontational way to keep her friends safe. I enjoy hearing all the creative ways our customers have used these gift boxes to build memories. There is no plan to discontinue these beautiful gifts anytime soon, so I look forward to many more stories about them.

I have had the pleasure of belonging to several womens business groups. One, I have spoken of earlier is the Women’s Economic Forum. This is a business women’s networking group.
I have also been involved in a few informal women’s business owner groups. In these groups, business owners meet together (usually 3-6 women) about every 3 weeks, to discuss current business situations. I have found these groups to be extemely supportive and insightful. Each person in attendance is given a chance to speak about anything in their business they wish. We only discuss business at our meetings, generally held in a local restaurant. It can involve any aspect of our business, recent accomplishments, requests for advice, hiring staff, advertising, etc, etc. The great thing is, you are able to gain immediate assistance for something that is occurring in your business at that moment. Every time I leave one of these meetings, I am pumped! It is so great, as sole proprietors, to be able to bounce ideas off of others who have experience in being a business owner. These groups are not difficult to start. Simply choose a few women (6 seems to be a great number) that you think you could learn from. Invite them to be part of the group. Ensure that everyone agrees that anything discussed at the meetings must be held in the strictest confidence. It is important that those you invite, commit to spending the time to be there on a regular basis, and are willing to freely share their expertise. Make sure everyone has a chance to speak.
To add a little fun, we have one extra meeting a year right before Christmas which is an informal Christmas party atmosphere. Everyone brings a small Christmas gift to share with the other women in the group.

There was a time, not too long ago that pretty much the only gift basket you could send contained either fruit (although fruit baskets can be beautiful, they are perishable) or a combination of crackers, cheeses and meats that looked as if they’d been around since God was a boy.
A few years back, one of my friends lost a parent. She received multiple fruit baskets. The problem was, there was way too much fruit! Knowing that her parent would be distraught at the waste, she took it upon herself to bring all of the baskets to the local mission. (I didn’t know about it until after the fact, or I would have happily brought it for her). The frustrating thing was, that during this time of grief, she had to worry about fruit going bad! Now I know everyone who sent her a basket had good intentions, and the results were, I’m sure, not what they intended. But none the less, those were the results.
When I started my business, one of my priorities was to build baskets that had fresh, shelf stable product that could be enjoyed over a longer period of time and to ensure the contents were things people couldn’t wait to eat! In my opinion, baskets of the 21st century are much more appealing and often include chocolates, cookies, candies, nuts, snack mixes, etc. Gourmet baskets consist of smoked salmon, lobster pate, high quality mustards, premium cheeses and seasonings. By providing a nice combination of products, you can ensure there is something for everyone.
By purchasing in smaller quantities and re-ordering product frequently, we can ensure freshness. Our maple products come straight from a sugar shack (maple syrup farm). Most testimonials are signed with the person’s first name only. How do you know that there was even such a person who wrote such a comment?
